The “Micius” Realizes Entanglement-based Repeaterless Quantum Secure Communication over 1000 km

Time:2020-10-13

The research team of Pan Jianwei and his colleagues Peng Chengzhi and Yin Juan et al. at the University of Science and Technology of China, in collaboration with Artur Ekert of Oxford University, Wang Jianyu team of Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of CAS, Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of CAS, Institute of Optics and Electronics of CAS and other related teams, used the “Micius” Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS) to realize entanglement-based quantum key distribution over 1000 km for the first time in the world. The experimental result not only increases the space distance of previous ground repeaterless quantum secure communications by an order of magnitude, but also ensures via physical principles that the secure quantum communication can be achieved even if the satellite is controlled by other parties, making an important breakthrough in the practical application of quantum communication.
